How to Save Water, but Have Flawless Hair with Waterl<ss

This post is a paid partnership with Waterl<ss. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I only partner with brands I truly love – thank you for supporting the brands that make Blondes & Bagels possible!

I’m going to keep this post incredibly honest right off the bat – I’ve truly never ever loved a dry shampoo product in the past.

Because of the incredibly fine texture of my hair and my oily scalp, I’ve been washing my hair every single day my entire life. There are so many reasons why I don’t love this necessary evil. Washing your hair daily:

★ is rumored to encourage your scalp to produce even more oil (ironically)

★ takes time – seriously the thing that takes the most time in the morning is styling my hair and a fresh wash means it needs a fresh style, eating up 20 valuable minutes in the morning

★ uses more water – no hair washing means a shorter shower time!

Your average, run of the mill dry wash products tend to way down my super fine hair and end up giving me a weird heavy feeling almost like I’m wearing a wig. For all you fine haired gals out there – I finally have found the solve.

Waterl<ss Dry Shampoo

Waterl<ss makes a whole host of dry styling products (from dry shampoos to dry conditioners to fragrance mists), but what I’m obsessed with is 1) their origin story and 2) that their dry shampoos are formulated for specific hair types.

How Waterl<ss helped Cape Town conserve water.

If you’re a regular B&B reader, you know I am all about small, easy changes you can make to your daily routines to make big environmental impact. I’ve got posts all about easy sustainable swaps for your home, even sustainable gift guides.

And that is exactly why Waterl<ss as a brand hits home for me.

Waterl<ss started with a small team of scientists who were looking to improve the non-wash day experience for a diverse set of hair types. Waterl<ss is rooted in hair type inclusion – creating specific formulas that work on everything from fine to coarse hair.

As the Waterl<ss team was working on this technology, a dire environmental situation was playing out in real time in South Africa’s Cape Town. In January 2018, Cape Town announced it was three months away from running out of water for their city of 4 million residents. Cape Town had a huge need for products that enable greater stretches between wash days – Waterl<ss provided the diverse residents of Cape Town with an array of products to make non-wash days easier when they really had no option other than to not wash their hair.

Why you should be using a dry shampoo.

If you haven’t yet tried dry styling products because you have yet to find your perfect match – problem solved. Using a dry shampoo helps:

★ not strip your hair of its healthy, natural oils (but rather just control them)

★ saves you a ton of time getting ready in the am

★ saves you cash on your utilities bill and helps conserve water!

How I use Waterl<ss to conserve water and save time.

Choose the Waterl<ss formula that’s right for your hair type.

Waterl<ss makes two different dry shampoo and dry conditioner formulas – one for fine/oily hair (that’s me!) and one for medium to thick hair.

I can’t stress enough why this array of formulas offered is a total game changer. I can only speak for the thin haired ladies in the house – but fine hair can be incredibly tricky when it comes to product. Fine hair is easily weighed down and can look limp, flat, and lackluster if the formula isn’t specific.

The Waterl<ss No Residue Dry Shampoo for fine hair is the solve for anyone who struggles with utilizing product on a thinner hair type and/or an oily scalp.

When to use your dry styling products.

Use before bed to absorb oils while you sleep.

My personal favorite time to pop in a little dry shampoo and conditioner (I’m using Weightless Smooth) is actually right before bed. I typically shower at night, so utilizing my Waterl<ss products in the evening mimics the hair washing on my normal schedule – without actually washing my hair. I also personally love how the products absorb overnight, leaving me with fresh feeling hair by morning.

Keep your dry shampoo + conditioner in your work bag for midday touchups.

I work a full-time office job in addition to blogging – so I am constantly on the go. Typically I start to board the fine hair struggle bus about half way through my work day when my oily scalp starts to revolt. I like to take a quick midday touch up moment to refresh my hair with the dry shampoo – I keep it in my bag or in my desk drawer. I also love adding a spritze of the Fragrance Mist to help refresh midday hair – it smells delicious.

Aim to wash your hair every 2-3 days.

My personal goal? To not wash my hair every single evening anymore. Using my Waterl<ss products I’ve actually made it…wait for it…

two whole nights without washing my hair!

I know that sounds like not a lot – but for me that’s bananas. I’ve never missed an evening hair wash ever until using Waterl<ss. These products are now available in the U.S. at Sally Beauty!
