5 Easy Eco Friendly Home Swaps

Having a more eco friendly home is easier than ever. It’s tough to be perfectly “green” – but it’s not tough to do bettr. There are so many easy eco friendly home options to replace your most commonly used – and not so great for the planet – household items.

Let’s dig in.

Reusable “plastic” bags

Plastic bags make for easy storage, but they’re truly awful for the environment (primarily because people litter them everywhere from beaches to parks).

An easy eco friendly home swap for your standard zip plastic bags are these silicone zip storage bags. Not only can you still store all your snacks and leftovers with ease – but these bad boys are washable and reusable meaning they’re way better for the environment than single use plastic baggies.

Cloth napkins and towels

Paper products frequently make up the highest percentages of waste. I can definitely admit paper towels are a massive source of waste in our own household – not cute.

Instead of reaching for a paper towel to use as a napkin with dinner, we’ve stocked our kitchen with cloth napkins. I feel like so many people reserve cloth napkins for fancy occasions and hosting guests, but they’re so much more eco friendly than paper towels. Who says we have to save them for hosting?

Standard dish towels also make great alternatives to paper towels for cleaning up messes and spills around the kitchen!

Recycled paper products

For those times you just can’t resist reaching for the paper products, a crazy easy eco friendly home swap is to switch to 100% recycled!

I’m going to keep it really honest with you – recycled paper products tend to not be as sturdy as their non-recycled counterparts. That being said I’d rather suffer through a slightly less than ideal paper towel and reduce my overall waste than continue to burn through standard paper products in the household.

Water filter + glass bottles

If ya’ll follow me on Instagram you know I love a reusable water bottle. Obviously a reusable water bottle as an eco friendly home swap isn’t exactly revolutionary info – but if you’re not using a glass bottle specifically you’re missing out.

Bkr bottles are my reusable water bottles of choice. Made from a BPA free glass bottle with a silicone sleeve for extra grip (and cuteness) – bkr bottles are hands down my go to.

We also always keep a Brita filter in our fridge for clean water to dump on into our bkrs.

Reusable “cotton rounds” for skincare

If you’re a skincare junkie you probably blow through traditional cotton rounds on toner and essences like nobody’s business. You totally don’t have to give up your toner love to have a more eco friendly home.

These reusable microfiber rounds are perfect for toner, nail polish remover, and everything in between. They even come with a little drawstring bag so that you can easily toss them into the wash with the rest of your normal load.
