My Custom MAC Palettes

Hello my name is Kelsey and I’m a MAC addict.

But seriously. I am. In my handful of years working as a MAC freelance artist I became obsessed with collecting their eyeshadows and concocting combinations to create perfect eyeshadow looks! MAC shadows are highly coveted because of their extensive shade range and high pigmentation – these babies are colorful and creamy, never dull or chalky. Throughout the years I racked up a total of 42 MAC eyeshadows, 30 of which I’ve assembled into two completed 15 pan palettes! Check out my two completed palettes below to snag some ideas on how to assemble your own custom MAC palette!

Below is a snapshot of what I call my “warm” palette! I’m a huge fan of neutral and bronzey shades so this is my favorite of my two completed palettes. When organizing my warm palette I included a balance of shimmer and matte shades. If you’re only just starting out building your warm palette, I’d recommend Brulé for a neutral highlight, Naked Lunch for a shimmery all over the lid color, and sketch as a smokey outer corner color (a great alternative to MAC’s pitch black shade, Carbon).

My second palette is where I’ve crammed all my golden shades and my favorite greys & purples! A caution to anyone trying to build out their own MAC palette, if I had the benefit of hindsight I would not have as many medium toned golden shades in mine as I do now. At the end of the day Woodwinked & Tempting and Cork & Charcoal Brown are duplicative – you can hardly tell the difference between them once they’re on the lid. Some honorable mentions in my second palette, however, are Star Violet and Satin Taupe which both can be blended and paired with nothing but black liner for an instant smokey eye.

Do you own any MAC palettes? Are you looking to build out your own? Tell me your experience!
