Valentine’s Day Makeup

I'll be honest - I'm not a big fan of Valentine's Day. I think mostly because it's clearly just a commercial holiday fueled by overpriced/overbooked restaurants and the silly idea that there's one day a year that's all about love.

Real talk - if you actually like someone, you'll send them flowers on a random Tuesday. It doesn't have to just be good ol' V-Day!

But rant aside, I do still get inspired by the colors of February. I'm not into colorful clothes, but I don't shy away from a good pink/red eyeshadow.

I wanted to create this easy Valentine's Day makeup look that nods to the pink and red hues we all love this month, but that is still tame enough to wear to work.

...I actually wore this look to work. Trust me, it passed the corporate test.

Keep on scrolling to see how I created this V-Day inspired look!

Step 1: Apply eyeshadow primer to make sure your look sticks!

Step 2: Take the shade "Caution" from the Urban Decay Naked Cherry palette and buff into the crease.

Step 3: With a dense eyeshadow brush, apply the shades "Feelz" and "Bing" into the outer corners of the eyes. Blend, blend, blend! You can go back in with "Caution" into the crease if you need to soften the edges.

Step 4: Use a pencil brush to sweep "Feels" on the lower lash line.

Step 5: Pack the color "Bang Bang" onto the center and inner corner of the lid with a flat eyeshadow brush. I like to spritz my brush with MAC Fix+ before dipping into the color to intensify the color!

Step 6: Apply liner and mascara! No fancy tricks to this step.

I'm not big into primers, but always start with cleansed and hydrated skin!

Step 1: Use a damp makeup sponge to apply the cc cream or foundation of your choice onto the skin. The damp sponge is key! It's what helps create the perfect glow.

Step 2: Set your makeup with a light powder.

Step 3: Use a natural bronzer in the hollows of the cheeks, across the nose, and on the temples to warm up the face.

Step 4: Apply a bright pink blush to the apples of the cheeks for a natural glow.

Step 5: Apply a light dusting of highlighter (I chose a powder this time around) down the bride of the nose and on the tops of the cheekbones to catch the light.

Step 6: Finish with a spritz (or like, five) of Fix+.

For lips, I kept the look super simple. I opted for a pink lipstick and topped with a pink gloss.
