KB and I just got back from a quick weekend trip to San Diego to celebrate one of our best friend's 30th birthday. We flew in on a Thursday night and flew home Sunday afternoon. It was the perfect little weekend trip!
Although admittedly we spent the bulk of the weekend eating, drinking, and napping, our crew did manage to sneak in an activity.
We hiked Torrey Pines!
Now ya'll know I'm not much of a hiker (or like, into physical activity really). But the views at Torrey Pines were WORTH IT.
I'll let the pictures do most of the talking in this post, but will break down a couple Torrey Pines must haves if you decide to take the hike yourself!
How long does it take to hike the full loop?
There are several paths to take in Torrey Pines State Reserve. We did the basic general loop (I think it was a few miles). The entire hike start to finish took 1.5-2 hours.
How difficult was the hike?
I feel like "hike" is a loose word for Torrey Pines. The paths for Torrey Pines are tougher than a brisk walk, but not quite "hiking" status. I was definitely sweating during some of the uphill portions, but there were no steep hills or drops, no slippery slopes, and there's a clear path the entire time.
What should I pack to hike Torrey Pines?
Make sure to pack water and a camera for your trip to Torrey Pines! The walk is long so you'll get thirsty and the views are a must capture.
I also recommend wearing shoes with good grip. There are some uphill and downhill portions to the hike that are best executed with solid grip.
What route did you take?
I'm not sure if the path we took had a specific name, but let me break down the route for ya'll.
We started in the Torrey Pines parking lot which overlooks the ocean. From there we hiked up a fairly large hill. It was entirely paved, so we were walking along the road. From there, the surface leveled out and we hiked paths that overlooked the ocean. We then started to trek downhill, eventually ending up at a stairway leading down to the beach. From there we walked the beach back to the parking lot.
That was the full loop!
What will I see at Torrey Pines?
Expect to see rock formations, cliffs, plenty of ocean, and a beautiful beach at Torrey Pines.
