The Best Nintendo Switch Games

I have a big obsession with video games. I grew up with basically a house full of boys - my dad and two younger brothers - surrounded by games. In my college and adult years, I've grown to love Xbox - I even got to partner with them earlier in the year!

But I grew up on Nintendo. Nintendo is nostalgic for me.

KB and I swore for Valentine's Day we wouldn't do gifts. I, being the good little rule follower I am, truly only wrote a card. KB being the Slytherin in the relationship (constantly one-upping me) went his own route and bought me a Nintendo Switch.

Honestly, can't say I'm mad at it. I'm actually OBSESSED. KB's Nintendo Switch gift has been probably in the top three gifts he's ever given me (the engagement ring outranks it, naturally).

Gaming isn't a big topic on women's lifestyle blogs, but I wanted to dedicate an entire post to my FAVE Switch games because I've had a blast exploring them over the last several months.

Just to be clear - I'm not a "gamer." I have ZERO expertise. I'm just a girl who happens to love her Nintendo Switch. No professional opinions here, but let me tell you these games are highly entertaining.

Zelda Breath of the Wild

From all my researching into the best Nintendo Switch games to purchase, Zelda Breath of the Wild always came up as the #1 most recommended game.

The reviews are true - this game is unreal.

I've never actually been a Zelda person, so I have no history or past understanding of the series. Breath of the Wild was actually my first ever experience playing a Zelda game and it did not disappoint. Breath of the Wild is an open world game where you play to the storyline, but have plenty of freedom. The art is jaw dropping, the music is beautiful, and the storyline is compelling. This is a must buy for every Switch owner.

Overcooked! 2

Overcooked! is my favorite multi player game! To be clear - I never play this game alone. It's impossible. Basically you control these little animal chefs and race around a kitchen fulfilling orders. This game gets incredibly competitive...even though there are no teams.

I don't know - I always end up screaming at my brothers to chop the vegetables faster.

Pokemon Let's Go Evee

I've been playing Pokemon games since Gameboy Color.

Yep - I'm basically an OG.

Pokemon fans have their range of opinions about how the storyline and series is progressing, but honestly I'm loving these newest versions of the game. Pokemon "Let's Go" can be purchased in an Evee or a Pikachu version. I opted for Evee. I love the more realistic, 3D art, I love how this game isn't totally open world but you get a bit of a taste. I just love it.

Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey took me a bit to warm up to - I think because nothing compares to Super Mario 64 in my mind.

Honestly, I've loved playing this game! The worlds are beautiful, dynamic, and challenging. I actually was able to beat the entire game! I became really addicted to it, going through each puzzle - and even playing two player with KB for a bit!

Zelda Link's Awakening

After Breath of the Wild, I was ready to dive into a new Zelda game. Line's Awakening (from what I'm told) is a bit of an update of an older Zelda game - sort of like a more three dimensional take if I'm hearing the rumors correctly.

I have zero familiarity with the original, but love this fresh take. The art is beautifully done (can you tell I'm a sucker for graphic design), the game is challenging yet achievable, and it's stress free. Breath of the Wild sometimes gets a little stressful for me (raised heart rate during battles anyone?) vs Link's Awakening is just a relaxing time.

Ni No Kuni

Ni No Kuni is a very recent purchase for me (I've maybe only owned it for two weeks), but has become a fast favorite. Ni No Kuni is similar to Pokemon in that there are creatures and battles, but has a much more robust storyline (something about an evil witch trying to f*ck everything up).

As per usual - obsessed with the art here. The graphics in this game are second maybe only to Breath of the Wild. The start of the game is super slow (it was basically like watching a movie), but now that the game is more open world and I control what I'm up to - it rocks.

Super Smash Bros

I feel like you can't have a "best Nintendo Switch games" post without mentioning Super Smash Bros. Super Smash is a Nintendo classic. Need I say more? It's a great group game. It's a great game to take out some rage on solo when you've had a rough day. Super Smash is just a great game.

Yoshi's Crafted World

Yoshi's Crafted World isn't very high on my favorites list, but it's on my list because out of all the games mentioned in this post it's the one that is easiest to "zone out" to. Yoshi's Crafted World just doesn't require all that much brain power. The music is light, the storyline is light, and the gameplay itself is engaging, but not entirely challenging. I love playing this game when I just want to unwind and maybe not be challenged all that much.

Upcoming games on my radar

There are some seriously BOMB Nintendo Switch games coming out soon - I'm already adding to cart.

Luigi's Mansion 3

Luigi's Mansion 3 comes out on 10/31. KB is a big fan of the OG Luigi's Mansion games, so I pre-ordered this bad boy and already pre-dowloaded the game (it becomes playable on the 31st!). I've actually never personally played any Luigi's Mansion, but I'm a big fan of the Mario games in general so down to hang with his brother for a bit.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

Obviously as a Pokemon fan I have the newest set of games on my radar BIG time. Sword and Shield both release on 11/15. We aren't disclosing our wedding date online just yet...but it's close to that timing. And I will be 100% abandoning all wedding activities to blow through this game.

I'm currently leaning towards purchasing Shield because there are some exclusive Pokemon in that version that I think I prefer over Sword. Anyone else have feels either way?

Animal Crossing New Horizons

LORD, do I love Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing is probably my favorite game series ever - yes, even more than Pokemon.

The newest anticipated game, New Horizons, is set to launch March 20th of 2020. The release date keeps creeping further and further back, honestly, I think because the game is just so massive and well done. The expectations are HIGH for this game - I know I'm not alone.
