5 Things I’d Tell My Younger Self

Hello hello, babes! Springtime = graduation season. Olay encouraged me to think back…

What advice would I give to my younger self? If I could give my own commencement speech to my younger self today, what would I say?

Boy have I learned a LOT since graduation (I’m going to hold my tongue on what year that was LOL!). So here goes nothing, kids. Here are the five things I’d love to tell my younger self.

Practice gratitude always.

I’ve really fallen in love with the quote, “Remember when you wanted what you currently have.”

When you’re young (or old, to be honest), it’s really easy to get caught up in what you want now. It’s also really easy to be angry at inconveniences, expenses, everything. Being grateful for what you have now - yes, even the inconveniences and expenses - is super important. Gratitude keeps you humble, grounded, and happy.

I would love to tell my younger self to be more thankful. Thankful for the zits all over my face because they really taught me it’s what’s on the inside that matters. Thankful for the high school boys that broke my heart because they taught me what I do and don’t want in future relationships. I’d tell myself to be thankful for everything - the highs and the lows!

Drink more water than you think you need!

Honestly this is advice I still need today! Seriously - I’d tell my younger self to drink way more water. Water is good for your skin, your physical health, it’s just GOOD for you.

I probably spent most of high school and college mildly dehydrated, so I’m really wishing I could go back and give myself that little piece of advice LOLZ.

Practice safe SUN.

Oh my gosh if I could go back and shake myself into some SENSE about sun scare I would.

You guys…I TANNED. I USED TO LAY OUT IN MY PARENTS BACKYARD AND TAN. WITHOUT SUNSCREEN.

THE HORROR.

I would love to remind my younger self that you only get one body - you only get one skin. It’s so crazy important to take care of it. Sun care is self care. I only wish it didn’t take me that many years to start properly caring for my skin and protecting it from sun exposure.

The Olay Sun Face Sunscreen + Shine Control with SPF 35 is my ride or die face sunscreen. It’s quick absorbing, not sticky, and isn’t greasy. Seriously it’s my holy grail sun care product and I’ve religiously been applying it every morning. I like to carve out a little ME time in the morning before diving into my busy day. There’s no better way to take care of myself than to take care of my skin first and foremost.

Big glass of water + sunscreen = the ultimate AM routine.

If you’re in your teens or early twenties and reading this (heck - ANYONE reading this), I beg of you please take my wise advice and practice safe sun! Your skin will thank you for it. 😉

Don’t judge people at first meeting.

Six years ago I met KB and I was notttt into him LOL! I mean he was nice - it just wasn’t love at first sight.

And honestly I’m not sure I believe in love at first sight or even super fast friendships. All of my best, deepest relationships have developed over time. I’m so glad I didn’t push people away or write them off after feeling lukewarm during our first meeting.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, people! The goober I had classified as “in the friend zone” is now my fiancé.

It’s all going to work out.

At the end of the day, what I really wish I could tell my younger self is that it’s all going to work out. It’s all going to be okay. Stay strong, trust your gut, lean on your friends and family - and it’s all going to work out, kid.
