Almond Butter Espresso Energy Breakfast Smoothie

I'm always looking for a way to add a little extra energy into my mornings, and I found just the thing.

My new favorite energy breakfast smoothie - espresso and almond butter flavored. It's delicious.

KB and I have a favorite bagel and smoothie shop in our neighborhood and they make an amazing smoothie called Beyond Prozac - espresso and peanut butter being the prime ingredients. It's my fave thing in the world, but 1) it's super expensive and 2) I can't really control the ingredients so can't guarantee its quality/health.

And that is exactly why I created my own version - which I'm called my energy breakfast smoothie because of its energy boosting and filling ingredients.

I don't know about you, but coffee in the morning is a ritual for me. I incorporated espresso into this recipe because it packs a powerful, flavorful punch in a small amount of volume. I usually brew a Nespresso double shot into my magic bullet cup to start.

I add in a handful or two of cubed ice into the cup and stir rapidly with a straw - this helps cool down the espresso with minimal watering down!

After the ice, I add in the rest of my ingredients. I use a natural almond butter for protein and healthy fat, half of a banana for texture and potassium, as well as 1-2 scoops of my favorite fiber or protein powder (the F Factor Unflavored powder is my current favorite). I also sometimes add a hint of almond milk (no more than 1/4 of a cup) to tame the espresso and nut flavor a bit.

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 espresso Shots
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 cup cubed ice
  • 1 scoop your preferred fiber/protein powder
  • 1/4 cup almond milk

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients into your blender of choice
  • Blend
  • Enjoy!
