5 Ways to Drink More Water

I had this post scheduled on my content calendar before health and wellness became such a *hot* topic in 2020 – but now finding ways to drink more water is even more crucial.

Healthline published this super interesting article about why water is important to human health. Drinking water helps improve your immune system, aids digestion, improves circulation, and so much more.

So why do so many of us struggle to drink enough water in a day? The Atlantic reported Americans barely get 2.5 cups a day. This number is well below the recommended 11.5 cups of fluid per day.

I’ve dropped a lot of articles and facts here – the reality is I’m not a doctor or a scientist. I’m just a hydrated lady who has spent years perfecting the art of drinking enough water. Most days I drink approx 2 liters of water – right about where a woman of my age and height should be at.

Here are my not so secret secrets for how to drink more water.

How to drink more water

How to instantly up your water drinking game.

Keep reusable water bottles everywhere.

The easiest way to drink more water is to surround yourself with bottles to drink from. I have a strategy.

I keep my largest bottles – like my 1L bkr bottles – on my desk both at home and at the office. These bottles are pretty big and I don’t love commuting with them, so having them at home and at work (the two places I spend most of my time) means I always have a giant water bottle available to me to sip from.

For commute, travel, and just daily life, I love using the 500ml bkr bottles (or the tiniest size!). These little babies aren’t heavy at all – and water always tastes the most fresh to me when using a glass water bottle vs metal.

Use a straw.

I’ve heard rumors that drinking from straws gives way to more fine lines around the lips – but honestly I might be okay with that if it means I’m staying hydrated.

Drinking from a straw is the #1 way I’ve increased my water intake. There’s something about a straw that just causes me to mindlessly sip, and before I know it I’ve sucked down my 1L bottle no problem.

My secret wish of 2020 – I’m kind of hoping bkr launches a straw lid (sort of like Hydroflask offers). I would 100% be the first customer.

Ditch the water intake reminder apps – but loosely keep track.

I tried utilizing water tracking apps and found them so insanely annoying. I do not do well with these apps – they truly annoy me and don’t actually help remind me to drink water.

What does help me suck my water down? Surrounding myself with bottles + a straw. How do I know how much I’m drinking? I have a personal goal of drinking two of my 1L bkr bottles per day – that’s how I keep track. If by around lunchtime I haven’t finished my first bottle, I know I’m running behind.

No obsession – just gut checking. 🙂

Pack your diet with water rich foods.

It’s recommended women intake 11.5 cups of fluid per day – but that doesn’t necessarily mean that fluid has to come from physically drinking water. You can eat some of your fluid via water rich foods like melons, greens, grapes, strawberries, etc.

If you’ve followed my Noom journey at all – this is actually a BIG Noom tip for keeping yourself feeling full as well! Water rich foods help you feel more full and satiated, which can long term help you lose weight in addition to staying hydrated.
