5 Reasons to Wear SPF Even If You’re Spending More Time Indoors

A massive thank you to Olay for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own! Another thank you to all you #BagelBabes for supporting the brands that make Blondes & Bagels possible.

I’ve been focusing on the positive aspects of quarantine life lately and let me tell you guys…

My skin is thriving right now.

I literally have only worn makeup one time since shelter in place was enacted in San Francisco – and my skin is loving me for it. I’ve been absolutely leaning on my tried and true staple skincare favorites (like a solid moisturizer and retinol), but have made an extra point to keep one crucial step in my routine…

SPF.

Yep, I know. Seems weird. We are all spending a lot more time at home, but trust me – now is the perfect time to start adding an SPF into your routine if you haven’t already. Let’s break down why.

Skincare = self care. And boy do we need a little extra self care right now.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I preach that skincare = self care BIG time. The skin is the largest organ in the body and taking care of it is an act of self love – not an act of vanity. Plus, a healthy and soothing skincare routine is a whole lot easier to execute during a busy day than an elaborate bubble bath.

The reality is that we all need a little extra self care right now, and for me it’s often the small moments that make the biggest difference. From making a slightly more “elaborate” breakfast in the AM (if you follow me on IG you know I’m now obsessed with baked eggs in cocotte), to a little more reading time, to a relaxing skincare routine – these are the moments that have centered and grounded me during these weird times. These are the moments that provide a sense of new normal.

Sun damage is a thing – even indoors.

Here’s the reality: you can still have sun exposure (and therefore damage) even indoors! It’s wild, I know, but it’s true. Give it a quick internet search and you’ll find studies showing that cumulative, ongoing exposure to low-level UVA rays can lead to sun damage (including signs of aging).

I’ll keep this section short and sweet – ya’ll need to wear SPF even if you’re spending more time indoors. Even San Francisco – which was one of the first cities to enact shelter in place – encourages safe jaunts outside for both essential activities and exercise. SPF has become a vanity and a crossbody purse staple for me during shelter in place, both as I’m hanging out around the house and when KB and I take social distancing walks through Golden Gate Park.

Now is the perfect time to add SPF into your routine – and I found the perfect SPF.

Admittedly before I became a preacher to the SPF all day everyday lifestyle – I struggled to add SPF into my routine. SPF products are often sticky, don’t absorb quickly enough for me to toss my makeup on right on top, and sometimes leave streaks or a scent.

I had also struggled because it’s yet another step in my routine to remember. It takes time to build habits.

Well now is the perfect time to make SPF your new habit, my friends.

As for the sticky, tacky, streaky SPF complaints I had – these are non-issues with the Olay Regenerist Whip SPF 40. Ya’ll know I love my red jars and have for years. Olay has changed the game for me when it comes to sun products.

The Olay Regenerist Whip SPF 40 is a light formula SPF that transforms from cream to liquid on contact, absorbs crazy fast, and is breathable. I’m very prone to acne and clogged pores – neither of which have been an issue with the Regenerist Whip SPF 40 (…or any Olay product for that matter).

To hone in on some of the science behind why the Olay Regenerist Whip SPF 40 is that good – the Regenerist Whip SPF 40 is formulated with Olay’s advanced Amino- Peptide Complex II, which actively hydrates to improve the skin’s elasticity and firms your skin for a lifted look. Olay also added innovative SolaSheer Technology to moisturize and nourish the skin while protecting it against harmful UVA/UVB rays. SolaSheer is also non-greasy and 100% oil free – which is exactly why I’m zit-free!

Hands down – now is the perfect time to add SPF into your routine, and I’ve found my perfect SPF in the Olay Regenerist Whip SPF 40.

A little sunshine is good for you – especially right now.

Being stuck inside all day isn’t good for anyone – just don’t forget your SPF (and a mask if that’s what your city requires!).

KB and I have made strolls through Golden Gate Park our moment of self care time together. It’s been awesome to spend a little time in the sun (before San Francisco is inundated with fog!) and know that I can enjoy my outdoors time while still protecting my skin.

Also I slather my Regenerist Whip SPF 40 on KB, too. He’s awful about using SPF and I’m a big believer men need to get on the skincare train real fast lol.

Schedule a little extra you time.

Just my friendly reminder to you Bagel Babes – please remember to schedule a little extra time to take care of you, both your mind and your body. Life indoors is still busy and it’s super easy to forget to carve out a little time to do things just for you – so schedule that time in your calendar.

And when your calendar is a little too hectic for any big moments of self care – reach for your SPF every morning or before an errand and know you’re squeezing in a little moment of self love. And that’s a big win.
